Metal Gear Survive ~ Platinum Guide

Quick Overview

Metal Gear Survive is an always online Co-op survival game released by Konami. A number of trophies are time consuming and there are some co-op trophies. It is a spin-off of the Metal Gear Solid series and the story is non-canon.

The co-op has 2 modes, Salvage and Rescue. Salvage is where you'll get your co-op trophies whereas Rescue is a good source of materials. Events happen every two weeks and certain events can give recipes which are needed for Collector. Server maintenance takes place every Tuesday for about 3 hours.

It is possible to platinum the game without spending anything on SV Coins, which are the premium currency for the game, if you should choose to buy SV coins it is 1000 coins (roughly $10 USD) to buy a second character slot which shares most of the resources with your initial save, excluding Kuban and has separate daily and weekly salvage missions. A premium booster can also be purchased which doubles the amount of resources collected and boosts Kuban received from Salvage/Rescue missions, which can reduce time to platinum. However you can get 40 free SV Coins every week, 20 on Saturday and 20 on Sunday.

Difficulty Rating

3/10

Online/Offline Trophies

This is an online only game.

Hero

The Platinum trophy for completing all trophies in the game.

Dite

You get this shortly after seeing the intro to the game.

The Soldier

After meeting Reese and reaching your main base he agrees to work with you.

The Nurse

After getting settled, Virgil detects a distress signal. Be sure you're stocked on food and water from sources near your base (Gerbils, sheep, wolves and a nearby pond. You can find a container of empty bottles behind the ruins of mother base). Bring some iron fences if possible. Head through the dust to the distress signal. You should see a crashed XOF helicopter, nearby on a cliff is an ambulance. Clear out the wanderers. Carry the woman to the nearby transporter and defend it until it's ready. Once you return you'll be introduced to Miranda.

Defender

Virgil will mention trying to open a wormhole back home and to do this you will set up an digger in your base. Use the nearby console to place fences around the outer edges of your base, possibly 2 or 3 rows. If you haven't found the survival bow yet you'll be relying on your spear to keep the waves back. Simply defend until the time runs out.

Digger

Unfortunately you do not have enough Iris energy to open a wormhole so Virgil tasks you with going to a singularity area located in old abandoned outpost. It's similar to the base defense but in a smaller area. Again bring iron fences to help keep the wanderers at bay.

The Boy

Another distress signal, this time it's a young boy. By now you should be familiar as to what you have to do. His name is Chris and he's confined to a wheelchair.

The Cop

Yet another distress signal, a cop named Nicholas who actually prefers cooking.

Progress

You'll get this after completing your second singularity which is located in an abandoned village near transporter 10.

Expansion

Once you have enough Iris to open the wormhole you'll be introduced to team management, assign everyone to base development for now.

Refuge

You go through the wormhole but instead of returning home you end up in the FOB.

The Giant

After meeting your old friend from mother base he mentions a weapon that the Charon corps were attempting to recover, it is located nearby a waterfall in the middle of the FOB map.

The EM Gun

Another wave defense, but this one can prove quite difficult if you are not well prepared. I suggest checking the guide found in Collector on where to find the recipes for the Mounted machine gun, mortar, survival bow, heavy arrows and barbed wire fence. Bombers and mortars can very quickly blow up most of your defenses so you'll want to defeat them quickly. When a mortar is guarding hold your fire as your damage is greatly reduced. It's better to kill them with mortar fire. Keep in mind each mortar only has 4 shells and you can only carry 2 at any one time. However there are 2 located nearby the transporter.

The Engineer

The man whom you thought to be your enemy becomes your ally. Place Dan on research and development once it becomes available.

Rescue

Seth has kidnapped Chris and it's up to you to save him. Make sure you're fully prepared before going through the wormhole. Bring the S-1000 or Rasp TB Shotgun and some grenades if you have them. Please see Collector to find the recipes for these. Seth turns into an armoured tracker type enemy. He will jump around a lot so try to toss grenades at him when he lands or gets too close, though mainly focus on hitting him with your shotgun for heavy damage.

Home

I suggest doing this before Sacrifice just to save you some time, instead of going to fight the boss turn around and enter the wormhole. It pops during the credits. Once it pops close your game and resume it to then go do Sacrifice. If you missed the opportunity to do this you can replay chapter 24 by accessing the skill trainer.

Sacrifice

There are 2 parts to this fight. The first part is a wave defense where you must keep wanderers from damaging the Archea Blades that are keeping the boss trapped. As with The beast bring your best equipment, you'll need it. Flame arrows can help to kill hordes of enemies as well as grenades. There will be mortars in the second wave as well. Chris will set up defenses for you but if you fail to kill the enemies fast enough they will break through the defenses by overwhelming them in numbers. Use your shotgun for trackers who will likely jump onto the electric fences located around the blades.

The second part is fairly easy, aim the Rail gun at the boss' body and wait for the crosshair to pass through; once it does, fire. Your first attempt fails so Virgil joins with the Lord of Dust so that it can comprehend death. This time fire at its head.

Production

Use the workbenches to craft a weapon, armour or gadget.

Construction

Craft a building using the module next to Virgil in your base.

Education

You learn skills through the upgrade module which cost Kuban to unlock. Once you get the wormhole device you can backstab enemies to stun them temporarily and wormhole them back to base, this gives 25% more kuban than harvesting them yourself.

Ability

After completing the main story Virgil will tell you that there is another memory board in the northern part of the FOB map it is located in a small building West of Code Talker's mansion. After collecting the memory board you will receive a distress signal. Rescue the man and return him to base. You will see flaming wanderers on the way to rescue, they are only affected by elemental attacks, pay them no mind and run by them. There are 4 classes to choose from I suggest starting with scout as the scavenger ability is quite helpful when collecting items and the stealth camo will help you with Suppression. Keep in mind you must be Survivor level 30 to use sub classes.

Cooperation

Simply complete your first Salvage mission, it can be the Daily, Weekly, Decent or any Standing mission. Before starting coop it's best to at least get your Survivor class to level 20 as that is the base creature level on easy. The minimum level for normal is 25. The minimum level for hard is 45. And the minimum level for extreme is 69.

Results

Pops when you reach the results screen after completing any Salvage mission.

Suppression

After completing the main campaign you'll see a red mission in Dite this is Big Mouth. Bring your strongest equipment. And be sure to bring some explosive barrels for Bad Meal. To make him easy to take down aim for his legs, once you damage him enough he eats his own arms. And if you hit his legs enough he will fall down leaving him vunerable. His weak points are his stomach, mouth and ball sack. Use the pillars to dodge his attacks. Frostbite spawns in FOB not long after killing Big Mouth. His weak point is his head, when it glows orange. Enough damage will knock him out if the sky leaving him vulnerable. His level will be slightly higher then Big Mouth. It is also possible to get this is co-op as they spawn on hard and extreme, it is required to kill them to attain S rank, but they will be rank 69.

Hunt

There wolves located east of base, kill one to pop this.

Cook

Grill the meat you harvested from the wolf.

Harvest

Collect from any farm on your base, the earliest you can get this by growing potatoes which are found nearby the transporter you use to rescue Miranda.

Mission

There are Daily and Weekly orders, they can be accept from Virgil. The majority of which can only completed in co-op but some can be completed in the campaign. They reward you with various cases which you can then open at Virgil.

Exploration

Assign at least one person to exploration team, if you have no other suitable units you can use Reese. Set up alpha unit in the planning tent and deploy them on a dispatch mission.

Revival

Revival pills can be crafted at a medical station, you get 3 from a himalayin brown bear paw, brown bear paw, oriental stork heart and black stork  heart. You can also craft 1 from 100 kitchen waste, which you get from spoiled food. You can exchange 1500 BP during events for 3 pills. You also receive a few once a week.  A good opportunity is while doing Surveyor as there is a spot in FOB which requires you to jump off a climb killing you.

Proficient

This will likely be the last trophy you acquire for the plat as it is very time consuming. It requires your Survivor class to be 40 as all the sub classes to reach 29. There isn't really an efficient way to go about doing this without a good team. If you can find 3 other players who have at least 1 class at rank 69 you can farm extreme missions for large amounts of kuban. Certain Events such as Ferryman's Carry which is an extreme rescue which is very easy with the right team can give upwards of 900k kuban per run. I would not reccomend doing quick match for extreme unless it's Airport, Wrecked Base or Fallen Village. As these are the  easiest maps to defend. On extreme there are support diggers as well as a boss to kill to reach S and if you manage to reach S there is a bonus 4th wave for S+.

Extreme is very different from hard on waves 2 and 3 there is a Devastator which is a mix of mortar and tracker type enemies. There are also elemtal enemies which you'll know by the map conditions. Heatwave is fire enemies, Blizzard for frost and Electrical storm for electric. They are weak to their opposing element expect for electric which does half damage.

You can replay chapter 24 for about 1.2 mil per run, but doing this multiple times in a row gets very boring and repetitive quickly.

Common Struggle

You must complete every standing mission, this does not count Daily, Weekly, Event or Rescue missions. Rank does not matter but S gives the best rewards. You must complete the 3rd wave or reach S before reaching it. Easy can be soloed with the right equipment, normal is easy enough with 2 people, hard you'll need at least 3 people, some maps may warrant a full team of 4 as hard has support diggers.

Slicer

This should come naturally if you use a machete a lot.

Gripper

The battle axe is a decent 2 handed weapon. Switch to 2 handed once you finish one handed.

Impaler

Again this should come naturally if you're using a spear, which you likely will when doing wave defense.

Crusher

This was my least favourite weapon type because it's so slow to attack with, but the heavy bladed chopper is a bit faster then the hammer and does heavy damage.

Marksman

Should come naturally as the bow will likely be your first ranged weapon. I reccomend heavy or flame arrows until you can get something better.

Responder

You'll likely get this naturally when going for common struggle, heavy machine guns count as do mortars. But the turret you get from the base dig is helpful for defending support diggers.

Protector

Now this one you will probably have to farm. Craft barbed wire fences and go to Ruins 2 in Dite. Go to where the Crawlers are. Place a fence down climb onto the nearby box and toss a kuban Crystal at the fence. Having the scouts repair skill will make this easier. They will attack the fence until they die or it breaks. If you gave the repair skill when you see the durability go below half way repair the fence. Once they are all dead return to base and then back again, they will have respawned. Do this until it pops.

Iron Wall

Set up your base with barbed wire fences all around the outside and space some machine guns every few squares. Put Reese and some other staff in Base defense, a C will work, do your base dig and leave it to your crew. It should pop after the results.

Rod and Snake

Can be boosted with a partner or done in quick match. There is however a glitch that can be used to get this quickly. After Mission Clear has appeared on screen if a player is downed you can revive them but it won't work, keep doing this and they still count. A good map to do this is airport as there are mortars and their grenades can down you when they explode after mission clear.

Locksmith

You will find plenty of hard containers in FOB, if you mess up press circle to back out and try again.

Comrades in Arms

Complete any 50 Salvage missions, including Daily, Weekly, Event or Standing.

Surveyor

Yet another time consuming trophy. Make sure to bring some revival pills with you and maybe the Oxygen Supply Camp Unit if you have found the recipe in FOB. If you do buy Oxygen be sure to repair your air tank when returning to base. Progress is only saved and updated by returning to base, so best way to do it is run along the outside parameter filling in as much as you can before your oxygen starts to get low then head back to base. Once that's done start filling in large chunks at a time. Using the marker as a guide. To know if you've fillied in a square or not instead of checking your map pay attention to the little symbol next to your thirst meters, it's looks like a little radio signal, if it disappears your inn an unexplored square. This is helpful for squares that are mostly filled with cliffs and are unreachable normally.

There are some squares in the north of FOB To that are considered "out of bounds" and will drain your health rapidly if you stay in them too long. Its best to run in quickly and run out. Using the signal to tell if you entered them or not, it also produces an audio cue. There is one square in the very northwest that is unreachable without jumping off the edge into the river, so use a revival pill.

Survivalist

Not sure if this has to be consecutive, but just in case if you do die choose reload last save or use a revival pill. If you need to you can sleep in a bed to pass time faster. Just be sure to have a good supply of food and water. Smoked food does not spoil.

Glory

You may want to boost this with a partner, but this can be done via quick match on easy or normal. Simply doing side missions, get stealth kills and collect tons of resources. Those bonuses add up.

Foodie

Use this spreadsheet to keep track. Having a higher level base development provides more resources from farms and animal cages. C gives 2, B gives 3. Potatoes are found in pile of goods near transporter 3. Onions are found in ruins 2 near where you find the Crawlers. There is a corn field close to the Village where you find singularity area 2 near transporter 10. And tomatoes are by the front door behind Code Talker's mansion in FOB. You can also see surveyor for animal markers, red markers are for dangerous animals such as bears.

Collector

Use this spreadsheet to keep track. You'll need at least a B in R&D and the Workshops which are blue. This guide lists all the containers locations and what they contain. Purple stuff (Legendary) drops on normal and hard Salvage. The Large Quiver only drops on Extreme however it is possible to get it from certain Events such as The Researchers story. You only need at least a B on Extreme. Orange (Epic) are not required. This spreadsheet shows where to find all the animal cages as well as the animal locations. To farm animal materials go to the ambient spawn, kill one of the animals and if it doesn't drop what you want reload your last save and try again. This also works with rare animals, like the Jehuty.

Prosperity

You get more staff by doing green distress signals, staff coming from FOB have better stats. If needed you can sleep to cycle the side missions given by your current staff members.

Spit

Find a few enemies, place a spiked barricade grab an enemy and kick them toward it. Let them pull themselves off. Rinse and repeat 50 times.

Bad Meal

This one can be a bit tricky as his bite can possibly kill you. Damage Big Mouth until his gun and sword arms are gone. Equip your explosive barrel and watch his movements. When it looks like he's about to bite place a barrel in front of him and get out of the way!

Best Buddy

This will likely come naturally and can be combined with Responder. You get the recipe from Base Dig 1 or 2.
